Here's my problem with Threads. It's already another platform where we are the product. Zuck is not doing this for any other reason than he runs FB ...and it's only a matter of time before it will suck. I know you hate Mastodon b/c we're all super weird/wonky and the platform doesn't hook you up with algorithmic matches and is hard to use. But eventually, we will need a town square that isn't run by the folks trying to sell all our privacy to the highest bidder and keep our attention to force feed us agro, fear and ads. So, perhaps a non-profit, like WikiMedia or some other group with servers and volunteers? I don't have a great answer, but I think we need to keep looking for one.
Just call this comment (to riff off your handle, of course), Cranky Old Woman Yells at Social Media. Honestly, more eyeballs for Zuck? As Bill said, we are building the house for free. Like you, I have few Insta followers cuz I abhore Insta. Sew, will you Tweet and Thread a la tea, a drink with jam and bread? Or just Thread?
Web3 is the solution. Doubt the gatekeepers - Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Twitter, etc - are going to let it happen without figuring out how to monetize it.
BTW, thumbs down 👎 for threads. It doesn't allow for a feed of just those you follow. The algorithm strikes again.

I agree with all of that. And yet, I'm enjoying using Threads. I think nostalgia for "a simpler time" may be part of that.
